WHAT IS THE ANCHORAGE WOMEN'S HOCKEY LEAGUE?
The Anchorage Women's Hockey League brings women of all skill levels together to play hockey in a fun, organized and supportive atmosphere.

ARE THE PLAYERS REALLY GOOD?
Last season we had more than 170 skaters playing in two Tiers: Tier I players are more advanced skaters including 'A' level players, UAA players and other women who want a more competitive style of hockey.

Tier I players now register as a team. If you would like to play on this level, please email us and we'll help you try to find a team with an opening.

Tier II is for beginners as well as those who have played for awhile and want a more recreational style of hockey. Every year we have new skaters join Tier II who have never even had on hockey skates prior to playing with us. The league assigns players to teams with the primary goal of providing overall balance between the teams and learning opportunities. The league also takes into consideration players' preferences for skating with their friends. All women who want to play hockey are welcome.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU PLAY?
Our season runs from September - March. We play once or twice a week, generally Sunday and Wednesday nights at adult hockey times - game start times range from 8:15pm to 10:15pm. Last season we also had some games on Thursday nights. Each tier has its own tournmanet at the end of the season. We've also started to add skill-building clinics for players throughout the season. We bring in qualified instructors to work with our players at a reasonable cost. In addition, we have developed a Discover Hockey clinic to introduce the sport to women who are thinking about playing. The clinic is usually scheduled in August, before the season begins. WHERE DO YOU PLAY?
Both Tiers play at Dempsey Anderson (West Northern Lights), Ben Boeke, UAA, and the MacDonald Arena in Eagle River. Tier I also plays occasionally in Wasilla.

HOW OLD ARE THE PLAYERS?
AWHL player ages range from 18 to 50 and beyond. (If you still want to play you're not too old!)
